I learned from Flight Director Ed that some spacecraft seats are molded to the form of the astronauts and cosmonauts. Cosmonauts are Russian astronauts. Molded seats were used in the Mercury and the Gemini spacecrafts used in the U.S. space program and in the Soyuz spacecrafts used in the Soviet program and in the Russian Federation program to launch to the International Space Station. Molded seats are better for withstanding high G forces and the rigors and vibrations of launch and re entry. Thank you Flight Director Ed for providing this information and checking my blog entry. I remain Capcom Ruth.
Good Night Through Orion
My family has a story of how my father, Ron, and his mother, my Grandma Rose, would say good night to each other when he was stationed in Korea during the Korean War in the early 1950s. Each would look into the night sky to say good night. I was always told it was through constellation Orion. My father and mother had three children-me and my two brothers. We were referred to as the three stars in Orion, maybe his belt. Yesterday I was invited to a reunion of my best friend and her adult adoptee birth daughter. We took a walk after dark. Orion was well lit over the South Florida intracoastal. I was reminded of my family. It touched me. I had been thinking of my reunion a few years before with my adult adoptee birth son. It’s in the stars, a gift from the Creator of the stars. Good night, and good morning.
May the Journey Continue in 2019
Happy January 2, 2019. This is my log (blog) entry while sailing the final frontier. A friend messaged me a meme this morning with an image of Spock saying the title to this entry. Some things remain the same. Carry those with value as the journey continues.
Blast Off Into 2019
Happy New Year Everyone! There’s always something happening in space and cyberspace. I plan to focus on both more this year. Connecting with you is spectacular!
In The News (by Capcom Ruth)
For years, I have reacted with mild interest when I see news related to space. My interest piqued when I was personally involved in an activity related to the space news, such as for my Social Media Meetup or the launch of GOES-R, or any event Flight Director Ed and I were attending. Now that we are using our blog and ebay, and I’m using my Facebook page Ye Olde Space Shoppe. Blog, space news gains my attention and peaks my interest. During his rally in Tampa, Florida, on July 31, 2018, President Trump mentioned space force as an arm of the military. I see space news at random times reported on social media pages for the news outlets. Flight Director Ed uses the website CollectSpace.com for news about astronaut appearances and general information. From time to time, we will post information about space news and events here on our blog. Stay tuned, and please take flight by using the contact option or comment option or come to my Facebook page if you think I should focus on a specific news story. I may use media tools to help us stay informed on space news. However you stay informed, I hope you will read our blog entries on yeoldespaceshoppe.blog.
Clearing Space (written by Flight Director Ed, prepped and posted by Capcom Ruth)
I remember hearing the stirring words:
” To boldly go, where no man has gone before;” on first run prime time TV. I remember the great space race as it happened. And, yes, we did go to the Moon.
As soon as I found out that you actually could own something that was “THERE” in space, I just had to have a space flown relic of my own. My first was a genuine fragment of the Skylab space station. It still blows my mind that I have a piece of that history. I have been collecting now for over 25 years. I have relics flown to the surface of the Moon!
My collection has grown quite large covering from the 60’s up to as recently as 5 years ago from both Russian and USA space programs. But I have become something of a pack rat. As a form of therapy and a way to free up some assets, I am planning on getting my inner pack rat sedated enough to let some historic relics go (to a good home of course). So I am now ready to part with some of my collection. I am starting small with one select piece, a NASA flag flown on STS-26. We listed it yesterday on ebay on account page MarsHill2001_9. Depending on how well I can distract my inner pack rat, more relics will be offered. Stay tuned.
